Young European Council 2015 – Day one

Today saw the start of the Young European Council 2015.

Delegates from across Europe have arrived in Brussels for a wide variety of talks and negotiations among the delegates and senior experts, covering potent issues for young people across Europe.

The event is being hosted by Young European Leadership who strive to empower young leaders and future decision makers from Europe and beyond through interactive events.

The focus this year is on three key areas: migration and home affairs, energy and climate action and education to employment.

Opening ceremony

A number of speakers attended the opening ceremony including the President of the Young European Leadership, Tillmann Heidelk, as well as the President of the Committee of the Regions, Markku Markkula.

European Commission

Following on from this the delegates moved on to the European Commission. Here delegates saw a presentation about the EU agenda on migration and energy policy: http://

Ludo Tegenbosch of the European Commission spoke about his focus on migration and home affairs.

This was followed by a presentation from Michal Tratkowski, who is in his role as a directorate-general at the European Commission spoke about the EU’s energy policy:

Moving onto the agenda tomorrow, negotiations will begin at the European Parliament between delegates on the three main areas of debate.
